Our name refers to the first exploratory fleet to embark on the Great Crusade, after the end of the Unification Wars.
As the first Crusade fleet, the Emperor himself would have accompanied it for a time, before any Primarchs were discovered.
As the longest Crusading fleet, by the outbreak of the Heresy the fleet could also be one of the furthest from Terra. With a mix of the original Terran veteran Legionaries, and more recent reinforcements, who knows what loyalties the Legions present will have when they hear of the Heresy...?
